2017 Opioid Abuse Prevention Summit

The 2017 Opioid Abuse Prevention Summit is sponsored by the Nevada Office of Rural Health and Nevada Rural Hospital Partners.

Opioid-related hospitalizations spiked more than 150 percent from 2013 to 2015, according to the most recent data from the state health department. In 2015, 465 Nevada residents died from opioid use – largely owed to prescription painkillers and heroin. During the last legislative session, the Assembly passed AB 474. This bill aims to reduce the number of overdose deaths in Nevada by requiring prescribers to perform more rigorous and recurring assessments when prescribing opioids. The Opioid Summit will help prepare prescribers to implement changes to be compliant with AB474.
