The purpose of this document is to provide information for families who have a loved one that is experiencing a mental health crisis that may lead to temporary hospitalization. A mental health hold is a legal process in Nevada law that allows for certain healthcare professionals to protect someone experiencing a mental health crisis so they don’t hurt themselves or others. This document provides education, resources and an explanation of the mental health crisis hold (also known as a legal holds) This document does not promote the use of holds, rather, this information is intended to empower parents and family make an informed decision about mental health needs.
